Ground surface leads to political
point-scoring

The Queensland Opposition today called on the State Government to take the blame for the poor quality of the playing surface at the new $280 million Suncorp Stadium.

Critics have described the field as a "sandpit" and a "beach" after watching last night's State of Origin clash and the match between Brisbane and Newcastle two weeks ago.

Opposition sports spokesman Kev Lingard, a former Queensland representative rugby league and union player in the 1950s and 60s, said the surface was not up to standard.
