Wests Tigers utility player Dene Halatau is determined to make every post a winner should he be handed a New Zealand Test jersey.
Halatau has been named in the Kiwis extended squad for the Tri-Nations Series, starting in New Zealand on October 16.
?I was surprised at first to be named in the squad. Now that I am in the extended squad, I?m pretty stoked,?? Halatau said.
?I?ll be happy to be the 18th or 19th man and would love to go to Great Britain. You never know what can happen, especially if there are injuries.??
Halatau played 22 games this season for the Wests Tigers, shifting from his preferred position at centre to the second-row.
?I was pretty happy with my form considering it was my first full season in first grade,?? he said.
?There were a few rough games among them but overall, I thought I played pretty well, considering the first half of the season I played pretty much out of position in the second-row.??
Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens said Halatau deserved his selection.
?This is a wonderful confidence booster for Dene,?? Sheens said.
?The fact Dene is a utility player will help him. His best position is probably still in the centres.
?It would be great to see Dene get selected to tour Great Britain. They may just take him because of the fact that he can play two or three positions.??
