Manly winger John Hopoate has requested coach Des Hasler name him in the Sea Eagles squad for their final trial match against South Sydney this weekend.
Hopoate, who has been out of action since breaking his leg last season is itching to get back on the field and secure his place for the NRL club's opening premiership match against North Queensland on March 13.
"I have trained better in the past week than at any stage of my recovery and I want to have a run against Souths," Hopoate said on the club's website.
The Sea Eagles and Cowboys shared the honours on Saturday night, playing out a 22-all draw in Cairns in a trial.
Hasler was pleased with Manly's performance after they fought back from a 16-0 deficit.
"Our condition is excellent and overall I was pleased with the trial as a good starting point for us but we have a long way to go," Hasler said.
Second rower Sam Harris, in his second year with the club after joining Manly from the NSW Waratahs, was outstanding and looks set for a big season.
Utility Shayne Dunley injured his shoulder in the fourth quarter but is expected to be fit for the opening premiership round.
