Jubilee Oval preparing for Dragons
homecoming

Eighty (80) tradesmen, labourers, footballers and volunteers are working in top gear with the appointed project builders, Kingsley Constructions and Kogarah Council to ensure the St.George Illawarra Dragons homecoming match against their neighbours the Cronulla Sharks at Jubilee Oval Kogarah next Sunday is a great result for the Dragon supporters. The various building crews have had to tough it out over the past few weeks braving unfavourable weather conditions to try and keep the project on track. The two million dollar Stage One major renovations will be 95 percent completed for the return to this legendary rugby league ground. Renovations included, new tiered seating for 750 patrons, new and refurbished toilets, new corporate and media boxes, new hospitality area, scoreboard upgrade and new ground clock, relocation of the main entrance and upgrade of other entrances, New turnstile buildings, internal and external perimeter fences and gates. Landscaping and the construction of "THE LEGENDS WALK" will take place over the next month. "THE LEGENDS WALK" is located at the main entrance and will feature pavers and granite columns depicting those former Dragons who have been bestowed legendary status, namely Graeme Langlands MBE, John Raper MBE, Reg Gasnier AM, Matt McCoy, Noel Pidding, Norm Provan, Ian Walsh, Ken Kearney, Eddie Lumsden, Billy Smith, Kevin Ryan, Johnny King, Rod Reddy, Craig Young and Mark Coyne. Organisers have been disappointed with the slow and complacent response from Dragon supporters and the community, accepting this once in a lifetime opportunity to have their name, family's or business name associated with these great Dragon legends forever. Granite tiles ($500) and Pavers ($200) can be purchased through order forms and other merchandise available at St.George Leagues, Kogarah Council Customer Service, Bates Bikes Hurstville and other retailers, hotels and clubs in St.George District. Promotions and Fundraising manager, Frank Bates said, "Supporters are urged to take up a special package celebrating the return to Jubilee this week. Dragons fans, families or businesses can purchase both the granite tile and paver for only $600.00 this week, a saving of $100". Bates added, " There are only 210 of these special packages left to complete The Legends Walk. Every dollar collected goes direct to the appeal, which is starting to dry up. Should these packages not be sold quickly it will delay the overall completion of the project". Whilst fans and community may be slow coming to the party, building supply companies such as BHP Steel Lysaght, Boral, Amber Tiles, Thorn Lighting, United Stone Australia, BCP Plumbing Supplies, Harvey Norman, Hyform Constructions and Australian Portable Buildings have provided products which has saved the project approximately $145,000. NSW Government ($800,000), St.George Leagues ($500,000), Kogarah Council ($250,000), Rockdale Council ($50,000) have contributed, whilst Hurstville City Council the third council within the St.George District is yet to propose a $50,000 contribution Supporters who are intending to be at Jubilee Oval on Sunday can purchase these packages from LEGENDS WALK information booths located outside the turnstiles or go to the Web Sites www.kogarahlife.nsw.gov.au or www.dragons.com.au Immediate enquiries can be made with Danny Asher on 9330 9456 or Frank Bates on 0419 251 596.
