Judiciary and injury news

Bulldogs winger Matt Utai will miss Friday's NRL match with Melbourne after pleading guilty to a dangerous throw. Utai was charged with a grade one dangerous throw for his 74th minute tackle on North Queensland's Matt Sing in the Bulldogs victory over the Cowboys on Sunday.

The New Zealand international was the only player charged by the NRL match review committee from last weekend's matches.

Elsewhere, injured Queensland State of Origin fullback Karmichael Hunt hopes he can return to the NRL as quickly as English soccer star Wayne Rooney recovered from foot surgery to play in the World Cup.

Hunt undergoes surgery in Brisbane to repair his broken meta-tarsal today and is facing eight weeks on the sidelines, ruling him out of the Origin decider in Melbourne next month. But Manchester United striker Rooney returned from a similar injury in six weeks to play in the pool matches at the World Cup in Germany.

Hunt is optimistic of a similar best-case scenario.
