Just When You Thought it Couldnt
get Worse

The news goes from bad to worse for embattled club Cronulla with star recruit Nigel Vagana charged by the National Rugby League.

Vagana was clobbered with a grade two careless high tackle charge for a second-half hit on North Queensland's Matt Sing in the Sharks' upset 36-10 loss to the Cowboys last Saturday.

The match marked ex-Bulldogs centre Vagana's debut for Cronulla after overcoming off-season shoulder surgery but was overshadowed by yet another disappointing Sharks effort.

Cronulla had pinned its hopes on Vagana turning around its flagging fortunes but they will miss the prolific try scorer for one match even with an early plea.

It was the last thing Cronulla needed as it reeled from slumping to the bottom of the NRL ladder with a 1-4 win-loss record while young pivot Greg Bird serves a 10-match suspension for kneeing Souths' Shane Marteene in the head.
