Kangaroos jump Fiji in horrid conditions

The Australian Kangaroos have kept Fiji Bati tryless in horrid, wet conditions in St. Helens as they claimed a 34-2 victory in their second World Cup fixture.

The major incident of the match saw Cronulla Sharks', Luke Lewis assisted off the field late in match. He has a dislocated shoulder as he slammed into the advertising signs behind the goal line. His World Cup is over as he will be now sent home.

Fiji posted first points of the contest with a 7th minute penalty goal to Alipate Noilea, Fiji 2-0.

Josh Papalii opened the scoring for Kangaroos as he stepped out tackles and charged over the goal line. Australia jumped early to lead 6-0 after 16 minutes.

Greg Inglis was named LeagueUnlimited Man of the Match for his efforts in the Green and Gold. Inglis set up Daris Boyd for Australia's second four-pointer of the match as he dived over in the corner. Australia mid-way through the first half led Fiji 10-2.

Minutes before half time, Australia extended their lead to 16-2 as Michael Jennings caught the Fiji defence short in the corner has he slid in. Thurston challenged in windy conditions saw him convert from the sideline. After 40 minutes, Australia held a 14 point lead.

Australia fired quickly in the second half as Josh Morris crossed 5 minutes into half as Jarryd Hayne provided an offload from a Daly Cherry-Evans kick. An incredible conversion from Thurston saw Australia extend to 22-2.

Sea Eagles' star, Daly Cherry-Evans was rewarded for his efforts in the match as he scored untouched as he ran off a James Tamou line break. Australia in control as the rain continued to belt down, 28-2.

The final points of the contest came as Luke Lewis crafted Australia's sixth try which started with a darting run from Greg Inglis. The Kangaroos secured victory downing Fiji 34-2 to move to outright leaders of Group A with four competition points.

Australia will now take on Ireland next week at Thomond Park in Limerick. While Fiji will face England at the KC Stadium in Hull on Sunday.
