Kiwi U16's start tour with a win

The New Zealand 16?s, who are currently touring Australia, played their first tour match yesterday (Wednesday 28 September 2005) at Cabramatta Stadium, Parramatta.

An invitation Parramatta team was put together to go up against the New Zealand 16?s side and was selected from all over the New South Wales region and also included 2 Kiwi boys who attended and trialled for the NZ16?s at the NZ High Performance Camp held at Kings College in July this year.

Vice Captain, Jody Henry was very strong in the halves and controlled the game extremely well. Forwards Mose Masoe, Leeson Ah Mau and Captain Russell Packer made great yardage along with Constantine Mika who was selected for the player of the match award from both the NZ16?s and the Parramatta Invitation team.

Coach Terry Hermansson was thrilled to come away with a win and was very pleased to have seen his team in action.

All staff are happy with the way the team has gelled so far and a highlight for players was to be presented with their jerseys by Penrith Panthers / Kiwi player Joe Galuvao on Tuesday night before their first match.

The NZ16?s next encounter will be against the NSW Country 16?s at Wins Stadium, Wollongong on Saturday 1 October where they will curtain raise the NZ Residents vs NSW Country. They then travel to Brisbane and will play the Queensland Academy Team on Saturday 8 October 2005 at Stadium Toowoomba.
