Knights ease home against Raiders

Match Summary

The Newcastle Knights have claimed a comfortable 30-14 victory over the Canberra Raiders in Newcastle tonight. The Knights led 10-4 at half time.

The Raiders opened the scoring in the ninth minute with Lincoln Withers taking advantage of a lazy Knights defence to score from dummy half.

The Raiders looked in control for a long period of the match, until the flow of the game turned after a Kurt Gidley break. The Raiders were left on the run following the break and a few plays later Wes Naiqama was contentiously ruled to have grounded the ball in the right corner.

Newcastle scored their second try just before half time, with great ball movement seeing Cooper Vuna score off a forward pass from Adam MacDougall.

For a long period the second half seemed to be showcasing two average teams, however the final 20 minutes proved to be rather frenetic. In the 61st minute the Knights seemed assured of victory, with Danny Buderus benefitting from an Alan Tongue fumble in the in-goal putting the Knights up 18-4.
