The Frank ?Bumper? Farrell Golf Day ? 15th November 2006

There?s still time to get your workplace or business organisation to enter a team in the ?Bumper? Farrell golfing classic at the Marrickville Golf Club on Wednesday, 15th November. The tournament is once again being sponsored by ?Bumper?s? grand-son Jack Elsegood, the former Manly-Warringah and Sydney Roosters winger.

Call Jenny Grosvenor on 1300 36 36 90 to book your place either as an individual player or as a team.

If you can?t make it to the golf day, why not get your employer or company to donate products or services as raffle and auction prizes on the day. Anything and everything you arrange to be donated will all go to help the Newtown Jets fighting fund as the 2007 Rugby League season rapidly approaches.

Give Jenny a call with your offers of raffle and auction prizes. All donations will be gratefully accepted.

Congratulations to our old friend and former player Frank Hyde

If there?s an older ex-Newtown first grader still on the go we?d like to hear about him. Frank joined Newtown in 1934 and played with the club from 1934-1937, including a starring role in the Bluebags? City Cup first grade victory in 1937.

Frank was recently inducted into the Australian Commercial Radio Hall of Fame, a richly deserved and somewhat overdue honour given Frank?s phenomenal career in Sydney radio spread over four decades.

Well done Frank and all the best to you and Gaby from all your friends at the Newtown RLFC.

Newtown Jets Players Getting Amongst the 2006 Representative Honours

Sam Perrett and Shaun Kenny-Dowall, two Roosters backs who played so well with the Newtown Jets VB Premier League team in 2006, represented New Zealand A against an Australian Invitational XIII at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne in the main curtain-raiser to the recent Australia-New Zealand Tri-Nations match. The Kiwis absolutely demolished the Aussies 48-18 in the curtain-raiser with both the Newtown boys playing well.

The popular Paea brothers ? Lelea, Lopini and Mickey ? were honoured at the recent Newtown Jets Presentation Night and were then chosen in Peter FitzSimons? team of the week in his widely-read Saturday sporting column in the Sydney Morning Herald recently. The three brothers are representing Tonga in the Federation Shield series currently being played in the UK between England, France, Tonga and Samoa. Tonga defeated Samoa 18-10 in the opening match at Headingley, Leeds last Sunday thereby guaranteeing Tonga a place in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. Best of luck lads for the remainder of the tournament and good fortune to the classy Lelea Paea when he joins up with the Gold Coast Titans in 2007.

Late breaking news is that the Tongans went down to England in the Federation Shield match played in London yesterday evening but the Paea brothers tackled anything that moved.

Gary Sutherland?s Rugby League Photographic Gallery

2006 was a tremendous season for the Newtown Jets and you can obtain mementoes of the greatest moments of the year through the exceptional sports photography of Gary Sutherland.

The Newtown club was doubly fortunate this year in also having access to the professional photographic services of Mike Biboudis. A certain Newtown official reports being absolutely gob-smacked when he walked into a business premises in Rose Bay North last week where he was confronted by an entire wall featuring an outstanding display of 2006 Newtown Jets action photos, all of which were Mike?s work.

The business premises concerned is: Birds Galore, specialising in the best and freshest poultry and game birds available in the Eastern Suburbs. The business is located at: 4 Old South Head Road, Rose Bay North. Phone: 9337 6237.
