Redcliffe have lost their opening games in the Mixwell Cup and Colts Challenge. Both games were played in oppressive heat at Bishop Park on Saturday.
In the colts grand final replay Redcliffe had chances to win the game but dropped ball cost them dearly. Early in the first half Wayne Bond beat four defenders to score under the posts giving Redcliffe the lead for the only time in the match. Norths led 16 ? 8 at half time and scored again early in the second. Redcliffe rallied late in the game with a Troy Francom try making the scores 20 ? 14 before Norths scored again to make the margin 10.
With time running out Redcliffe chose twice to shoot for goal after penalties but missed. The last throw of the dice came after winning a scrum against the head but winger Lyndon Nagas was forced over the sideline in the corner. Captain Dominic Fallini tried hard all day but in the end it was not to be.
Norths fullback Greg Inglis was unstoppable scoring three tries in their 6 tries to 2 win. The final score could have been much worse as kicker Aaron Kuskey failed to convert a single try.
Norths 24 (Inglis 3, Stonier, Kuskey, Shortnam tries) d Redcliffe 14 (Bond, Franklom tries; Bond 3 goals from 5)
In the A Grade the Dolphins went down 30 ? 20 in a tough battle. At half time they had it all to do trailing 18 ? 4 after giving away too many penalties. The second half saw a comeback in the heat with Redcliffe hitting the lead 20 ? 18 before two late tries gave the win to Norths.
Norths 30 (Zipf, Mitchell, Henrick, Turner, Callaghan, Franks tries; Turner 2, Henrick goals) d Redcliffe 20 (Black 2, Cooper, O?Grady tries; Georgetown 2 goals)
Next week it?s another grand final replay when Redcliffe take on Wynnum in the A Grade at 1.30pm at Dolphin Oval.
