Maitua apologises for drink-driving

Bulldogs five-eighth Reni Maitua has apologised after being charged with a high level drink-driving offence. Maitua met with club officials and his manager today about the offence late on Anzac Day and then fronted the media to apologise to the club's fans and sponsors.

He has been dropped from first grade this weekend and the club is still discussing what further action, if any, will be taken. Police said a 23-year-old Maroubra P-plate driver was pulled over for a random breath test at Gerrale street in Cronulla at 11.55pm on Anzac Day.

He returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.165, more than three times the legal limit, and had his license suspended. He was ordered to appear in Sutherland Local Court on May 18.
