Manly out-class Wests Tigers
The Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles have out classed the Wests Tigers in terrible wet weather conditions at Bluetongue Stadium, 26-0. It's the first time the Tigers have been kept scoreless since, Round 12, 2009.
The Tigers were unable to find the in goal despite having six straight sets on the Manly try line. The Sea Eagles took off with four unanswered tries in the second half as they found their feet and began to run the Tigers around.
Tom Symonds claimed the only points in the first half as he cleaned up a mistake from Wests Tigers young gun James Tedesco. They were the only points in the opening 40 minutes, so at half time Manly led 4-0.
Wet weather conditions made ball handling difficult, but tonight the Wests Tigers were run off the park with a step up in class from previous weeks. Tigers coach Mick Potter has questions to answer with captain Robbie Farah pulled off the field middle of the first half and didn't return until the second half.
The Sea Eagles were awarded their second four-pointer to David Williams despite a clear forward pass in the 44th minute.
Manly attacked quickly again minutes later with the same play, this time all legal as David Williams dived over in the far corner of Bluetongue Stadium. Jamie Lyon stuck a beautiful conversion to bring up 14-0 after 50 minutes.
Daly Cherry-Evans posted his own points in the 75th minute as Benji Marshall kicked downfield looking for points. The ball was collected by Brett Stewart who passed to Cherry-Evans who kicked it ahead for himself. He picked it up and bolted downfield for 80 metres to score.
The Sea Eagles secured the victory with a final try in the last 60 seconds to Steve Matai. Brett Stewart on point to provide the foundation for the points with a short pass. The Sea Eagles flew through the Wests Tigers to defeat them 26-0.
Wests Tigers will do some soul searching before they travel south to AAMI Park to do battle with Melbourne Storm next week. Before the Tigers can get to Melbourne, Adam Blair will have to answer a "chicken wing" tackle at the match review panel. Meanwhile Manly will march to ANZ Stadium to face the Bulldogs.
