North Queensland chief executive Peter Parr says if common sense prevails, the Cowboys won't be penalised any competition points for briefly having 14 players on the field during their 28-24 win over Canberra.

NRL officials will today investigate an apparent 20-second period of interchange mix-up, but the players concerned were not involved in tackles or ball-play. The NRL has the power to warn, fine or dock competition points from teams for having too many players on the pitch.

Parr is already in Sydney for another matter and will meet with NRL officials to discuss the incident but is confident his club won't lose points.

New South Wales hopeful Mark O'Meley will learn today whether a high tackle on Manly winger Michael Robertson could cost him the possibility of a State of Origin recall.

The Bulldogs prop will be sweating on the release of today's charge sheet from the NRL match review committee after he was placed on report for the high shot on Friday. O'Meley has been tipped to return to the NSW side for the third game of the Origin series, but he will be unavailable if he receives a one-match ban.

Melbourne Storm have claimed outright top spot on the NRL ladder after comfortably defeating bottom side St George Illawarra 28-6 at Olympic Park.

The Storm now hold a two point advantage over Manly after the Sea Eagles' upset loss to the Bulldogs on Friday. South Sydney beat Cronulla 16-12 in yesterday's other game, with the Rabbitohs joining the Sharks in a five-way tie for eighth spot.

Tonight, Brisbane Broncos host the Wests Tigers to wrap up round 15. The Tigers will be aiming to jump back into the top four while the Broncos can join the logjam for eighth spot if they claim back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
