Myles, Bird Named As Co-captains

Myles, Bird named as Co-Captains

The iSelect Gold Coast Titans have today announced Nate Myles and Greg Bird as the club's Co-Captains for season 2013, with William Zillman selected as Vice Captain.

In
what marks the third captaincy announcement in club history, State of Origin and Australian Test forwards Myles, 27, and Bird, 28, have been chosen as the men to lead the club into a new era from 2013.

Zillman,
26, will join the pair in a senior role as the club's Vice Captain as he heads into his fifth season with the iSelect Titans.

iSelect
Titans Chief Executive Officer David May and Coach John Cartwright declared the trio had the right qualities to lead the club into the future.

"I'm
delighted for the club, our supporters and of course Greg and Nate,'' said May.

"They
are both natural leaders and will bring great things as Captains of the club. Greg brings that warrior spirit, winning mindset and leads by example. Nate has really strong communication skills, never gives ground, and has shown over his time with us that he will do anything to play for the blue and gold.

"Anyone
who has met Greg and Nate know what great ambassadors they are for the club.

They are responsible for helping to build the culture of this club into
something bigger and better. I'm sure they are the leaders to take us forward and bring the success the Gold Coast and our fans deserve.''

Cartwright
said it was important that the club's new leaders had all committed to the club long-term and would provide the Titans with stability moving forward.

"We
took feedback from everyone within the coaching staff, training staff and all the players themselves and it's great recognition for the three guys that have been named,'' said Cartwright.

"Importantly
they are all here for a minimum of three years, have got plenty of football left in them and are leaders within the group.

"Considering
we have such a great group of leaders at the club outside the three players that have been chosen, it's a real honour for these guys to know that they have stood up among the pack.''

The
selection of Myles as Co-Captain comes off the back of an outstanding debut season with the Titans in 2012 where he led by example to claim the club's Paul Broughton Medal along with a host of other accolades at the club's end-of-season awards night.

"It's
a privilege and an honour to help lead this club as Co-Captain,'' said Myles.

"To
have the backing of the players and coaching staff is humbling. I've only been here a short time but I love the club and am excited about what we can achieve.''

Bird,
who captained the NSW Country Origin side last year, said he was thrilled to have the approval of his peers and the coaching staff in being named as Co-Captain.

"To
be recognised by Carty and the team as a leader and to receive formal recognition like this is a massive honour,'' said Bird.

"I
always considered myself to be a leader but haven't been given the honour of being able to be Captain on a regular basis until now so I'm really excited about taking the next step.

"It's
been a goal of mine for a while and hopefully I can help lead the team into some success.''

Zillman
said he was proud to be recognised as a senior leader at the club.

"I'm
honoured to have been looked at in that light,'' said Zillman.

"It's
great to be recognised that I've stepped into that role as a senior player.

"I
think today is more about Birdy and Nate leading the team but I'm happy to be able to assist where I can.''
