NRL Coca-Cola Road Train set to
roll into Henson Park this Saturday

Inner-Western suburbs youngsters are in for a great afternoon?s entertainment this coming Saturday, July 3rd, when the NRL Coca-Cola Road Train will be on show at Henson Park, Marrickville. The NRL Coca-Cola Road Train provides a cavalcade of fun activities for children and adults, and has attracted hundreds of thousands of participants since its inception in 2001.

The Road Train will be open to the public from 12.30pm Saturday. Children are admitted free into Henson Park.

In addition to the NRL Road Train?s presence at Henson Park, there will be an action packed Sydney Airport Jets home game double-header with Newtown taking on Erina in the Jim Beam Cup match at 1.15pm, followed by the critical VB Premier League match between Newtown and the Penrith-St.Marys Cougars at 3.00pm.

In the weekend?s Rugby League action, an injury-weakened Sydney Airport Jets team went down 36-22 to the Canberra Raiders in the VB Premier League match played at Seiffert Oval, Queanbeyan. Newtown had trailed 16-12 at the break, but fought back in the second half and were still clinging to an 18-16 lead with fifteen minutes remaining. Eventually the injury toll and two controversial tries to the 2003 premiership-winners were enough to put the brave Jets away. Newtown forwards Dan Manousso, Phil Leuluai, Wade L?Estrange and Troy Barnes played their hearts out, while Craig Field and David Hall were the best of the backs.

Newtown went down 42-20 to the Sydney Bulls in the Jim Beam Cup match played on Saturday. Lee Trasler, George Ghazal and Adam Bennett were Newtown?s best forwards, with Chan Ly and Hamilton Hughes standouts in the backline.

The Parkes Spacemen's wretched luck continued after making the long road trip west to Cobar. The Parkes boys led for most of the game but were run down by the Roosters late in the second half, going down by 36-28.

Since its inception in 2001 the National Rugby League?s Road Train has travelled close to 80,000kms to areas as varied as Far North Queensland, western New South Wales, Victoria and even across the Tasman to New Zealand.

With more than 250,000 visitors during that time the Road Train has certainly exceeded all expectations. Coca-Cola is on board for 2004 and promises to add an exciting new dimension to the Road Train initiative.
