NSWRL match report: Roosters v
Souths

ROUND 1 JERSEY FLEGG MATCH REPORT The Souths Juniors Jersey Flegg team faced local rivals and defending Premiers of the Jersey Flegg Competition the Sydney Roosters in Round 1 of the Jersey Flegg Competition.

The Sydney Roosters continued their impressive form from the previous season and dominated the early exchanges. A Troy Boston try in the first half kept us in touch and going into the break we were down by 18 points to 6.

The game was in the balance up until the final minutes of the match when the Roosters scored a late try and ended up running out winners by 32 points to 24.

Beau Champion picked up where he left off last season and directed the team around the park, his forward pack helped him achieve this by setting a good platform for him. Jerrod McGaughey made an impact when he took the field off the bench, Aaron Firman never stopped taking the ball up and Rhys Hanbury playing in the unusual position of Hooker also had a fine game.

Playing against his former club forward Josh Rovelli was a stand out and was chosen as his teams best and fairest player on the day.

There were a lot of positives to come out of the teams loss which was pleasing for Coach Scott Murray as he prepares his troops for their Round 2 clash against the Parramatta Eels at Redfern Oval on Sunday 20th March with kick off being at 10.45am.

Sydney Roosters 32 Defeated Souths Juniors 24 (Troy Boston, Michael Woodlands, David Wynyard, Manase Manuokafoa tries; Beau Champion 4 Goals)

ROUND 1 VB PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH REPORT Going into Round 1 of the VB Premier League Competition coach Mark Ellison had already had one win under his belt for the season and knew he had a tough ask against the defending Premiers the Sydney Roosters.

Unfortunately for Souths Juniors the Sydney Roosters dominated the match which they led from the start to the finish of the match. Despite the Roosters dominance the Souths Juniors team managed to stay in touch at the half time break only being down by 12 points - 2.

The Sydney Roosters continued their form in the second half of the match and ended up running out winners by 30 points to 6.

Once again prop Glenn Hall continues to impress and was outstanding up front, centre Todd Polglase was solid in defence and attack as was his centre partner Nathan Marles who performed strongly.
