NSWRL Premier
League : Round 11 results

Two drawn results hit the headlines in this round of the NSWRL Premier League, with the Newtown Jets drawing with the North Sydney Bears, and the Magpies and Roosters also ending equal on the scoreboard.

First up on Friday 20th June, the StMarys/Penrith Cougars travelled up to Newcastle and put on a fine display to defeat the Knights by 30-16. The Cougars have cemented their spot at fifth position on the ladder, and look to improve as the weeks go on.

Canberra came up against the Balmain side, beating them by 33-22, and remaining at the top of the table. Balmain are sitting 7th on the table and are more than capable of moving up further.

The Newtown Jets and North Sydney Bears finished their game on Saturday afternoon at Henson Park at 22 all. Both teams made sure this Cup decider would be a game to remember. The Jets looked the goods leading 22-6 with fifteen minutes remaining, but the Bears charged home to draw level with just three minutes left on the clock. Amazingly, the Jets then had a try controversially disallowed as the full-time siren sounded! Newtown missed the go-forward of giant prop Monah Elahmad after he left the field injured. Billy Najarrin, Tony Phillips,Tabua Cakacaka and Joe Lichaa were other Jets forwards to stand out, while Craig West and Andrew Le Breton were the best of the backs.

Brookvale Oval has seen many fine battles over the years, and Round 11 of the Premier League competition between the Sea Eagles and Sharks was no exception with the home side coming away with a surprise victory over the Sharks by 31-22. This still has the Manly side at the bottom of the ladder but making a statement, that they are no easybeats.

The Dragons continued on their winning way at WIN Stadium on Saturday evening when they defeated the visiting Rabbitohs by 28-18. They are now nipping at the heels of the 1st placed Raiders ready to challenge for the top spot.

The Eels have regained their confidence after their shock loss to the Bears in an earlier round when on Saturday night they defeated the visiting Bulldogs by 24-18. Both these sides are vying for 3rd position on the leaderboard, and with the Eels coming out the victors, they might just be on the comeback trail.

The only Sunday game of Round 11 was a thriller. I found this a tough one to call and it was tough right til the last minute, ending in a high scoring 44 all. Fans at Campbelltown were treated to a fast action packed game, and although the home team didn't come away with the win, some great footy was on display for all.
