Mt Albert showed patience and experience to overcome an enthusiastic Otahuhu-Ellerslie side 38-28 in the curtain-raiser to the New Zealand Warriors-Roosters game at Ericsson Stadium.

Mt Albert went to sleep on defence after a solid opening 10 minutes and Otahuhu-Ellerslie were allowed room to make long-range breaks allowing them to be up 24-10 at the break.

It was not until the 71st minute that wing Rowan Baxter bustled over from dummy-half to secure the lead for the first time and a last-second try to Anthony Swann made it look more comfortable than the full time score shows.
