Queensland fullback Karmichael Hunt may have precautionary calf scans today after failing to finish training at the team's Gold Coast base at Sanctuary Cove late yesterday.

While Hunt dismissed concerns after breaking down, Queensland's medical staff applied an ice pack to his leg and suggested he may have scans today to investigate the seriousness of the injury. Queensland forward Jacob Lillyman is still touch and go with an eye injury while centre Justin Hodges has an ankle problem and forward Dallas Johnson is receiving treatment from the team's medical staff.

Brisbane forward Dane Carlaw is expected to join the camp after playing for the Broncos against Penrith tomorrow as it 18th man - a role he played in the first two Origins.

Veteran prop Steve Price says the Queensland side will need to maintain the rage if they want to secure the state's first State of Origin series clean sweep in 12 years.

Price says New South Wales will come to Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday desperate to prevent their first 3-0 series defeat since 1995. The New Zealand Warriors skipper says the Queenslanders are enjoying the celebrations but notes the 2007 series victory has come through hard work.

In the Blues camp, NSW centre Jamie Lyon remains under an injury cloud. Lyon missed yesterday's training session at Aussie Stadium with a hamstring strain, team officials to decide this weekend whether to risk him for the dead-rubber clash.

Parramatta's Eric Grothe looms as the likely replacement, with Matt King to shift from wing to centre.

Meanwhile, on the club front, Newcastle and South Sydney will kick off round 16 NRL action tonight when they clash at EnergyAustralia Stadium for a place in the top eight.

The Rabbitohs are six places below the Knights heading into the contest, but victory will see Souths leapfrog Newcastle and into seventh position. South Sydney have an unchanged side from the team that beat Cronulla last week while Newcastle are without Origin trio Danny Buderus, Kurt Gidley and Steve Simpson.

Knights centre Brad Tighe and utility Chris Bailey are under injury clouds with coach Brian Smith rating them doubtful starters.
