Parkes experiment a success except on the scoreboard

Newtown Jets are sure to bring more home games to Parkes despite going down to the Windsor Wolves in the NSW Cup yesterday.

With Group 11 having a general bye, rugby league fans enjoyed being able to get their long weekend fix of footy.

An excellent Pioneer Oval crowd of more than 1,000 could not cheer Newtown on to victory as they went down 34-20.

The Wolves maintained second spot on the ladder on the back of a dominant performance from wily halfback Arana Taumata.

Taumata scored a try and had a hand in three others as the Wolves played with more desire and commitment to enjoy their day in the country.

After an early Newtown handling mistake, a towering bomb from Taumata was again spilled by Jack Littlejohn and Jack Twist was 'Johnny on the spot' to score the opening try after just five minutes to give Windsor a 4-0 lead.

However, it didn't take long for the Jets to hit back when a horrible dropped ball by Matt Moylan in his own in-goal allowed Khalid Deeb to dive on the ball for the easiest of tries.

Mark Kheirallah added the extras from right in front and Newtown led 6-4.

On 17 minutes, David Simmons put Windsor back in front after some sloppy play turned to gold.

A poor pass from hooker Nafe Seluini was brilliantly flicked on by Taumata and the overlap was created.

A brilliant sideline conversion by Moylan saw the Wolves reclaim the lead 10-6.

Both sides had their chances throughout the remainder of a heated first half but simple handling errors and determined defence saw neither team able to add to their score.

With 30 seconds remaining in the first half, yet another dropped ball from Littlejohn with the line open saw a try go begging after a good break from Kheirallah.

Windsor led 10-6 at the break, however the game was there to be one for the team that could hold onto the ball.

The Wolves certainly came out firing after the break when Taumata sliced through some flimsy defence to take the lead to 16-6.

The damage was doubled soon after as Simmons grabbed his second on the back of a soft penalty for 22-6.

It was a simple case of numbers as Taumata was once again instrumental in creating the space out wide and the big winger was unstoppable.

After being on the receiving for the entire second half, the first time Newtown got down their attacking end they put on points when a ghosting run from Tom Symonds allowed him to put Blake Lazarus into a hole with a beautiful pass and the gap was back to 12 points.

The game suddenly sparked back to life on the hour when Kurt Kara steamed onto a short pass and crashed over under the posts.

At 22-16 with 20 minutes remaining it was anyone's game.

This was the wakeup call that Windsor needed on the back of two repeat sets, Jesse Sene Lefao was too big and too strong from close range and the Wolves extended their lead to 28-16 with 13 minutes to play.

Any chance Newtown may have had for comeback victory were snuffed out when Jake Grace was on the receiving end of a great ball from Taumata and raced 40 metres to score much to the delight of his team mates.

Once again, Moylan was on target and the Wolves had a match-winning lead of 34-16.

In the dying minutes Newtown winger Daniel Tupou got a perfect bounce from a crossfield kick to add some respectability at 34-20.
