Parra edge out Penrith as Hayne placed on report

The Parramatta Eels have defeated the Penrith Panthers 18-10 in last night's NRL trial at CUA Stadium.

Eels coach Daniel Anderson told AAP that his side's win was encouraging albeit scrappy at times.

"I thought we just battled and we had to and I think we showed some little signs in the game that we've made some forward progress, even since last week when most of the big boys didn't play," Anderson said.

"We've still got some areas that we can work on, which is important."

Embattled Panthers coach Matthew Elliott praised his side's defence.

"We did some really good stuff and showed some intent defensively, obviously in attack, we've got some work to do." Elliott said.

Eels star Jarryd Hayne faces an anxious wait after being placed on report for a tackle that left Panthers' winger Shane Elford dazed.

Hayne played five-eighth for half the game, scoring two tries. Regular five eighth Feleti Mateo was a stand out at lock.
