Former Australian and St George Illawarra front rower Jason Ryles has signed to return to the NRL with the Sydney Roosters. Joining new coach Brian Smith, Ryles (30) has abruptly ended an intended three-year stint with English Super League side Les Catalans Dragons after just one season.
It has been reported that Roosters utility Setaimata Sa, who was in the Kiwis' World Cup-winning squad last year, is heading to Les Catalans in an exchange deal involving Ryles.
It has also been revealed this week that Manly captain and halfback Matt Orford is quitting the NRL to play for the Bradford Bulls in the English Super League next year. His departure gives 19-year-old new Kiwi international Kieran Foran the chance to secure the No 7's job at Manly next year. This week's moves follow confirmation in the last week or so that St George Illawarra winger Wendell Sailor has retired while Queensland and Melbourne loose forward Dallas Johnson will play for Les Catalans next year.
Melbourne has announced it has signed former Newcastle winger Luke MacDougall and ex-Bulldogs prop John Kite. Also on the Storm's 2010 roster is Vodafone Warriors utility Daniel O'Regan, who made one NRL appearance this year.
An announcement is also expected soon about Willie Mason's future. He's tipped to leave the Roosters for rugby union in Japan or perhaps a Super League club.
