R28: Dorn devastates future teammates

Harlequins RL half-back Luke Dorn gave play-off bound Salford City Reds a taste of things to come with a stunning hat-trick as the Londoners wrapped up their engage Super League season with a 40-18 win.

Dorn ? playing his final match before a move to the Reds next season ? ran riot at Twickenham Stoop to end his Quins career and their campaign in style.

Quins had a dream start when full-back Zeb Luisi broke through the line in the sixth minute to send Dorn in under the posts.

The hosts had to cope with just 12 men soon after when Paul Noone was sin-binned after trading punches with fellow second-rower Andrew Brocklehurst.

But the Reds could not take advantage and fell further behind in the 25th minute.

Rob Purdham ? making his 100th Quins appearance ? converted his own try after he latched onto Luisi?s grubber kick.

Two tries in quick succession just after the half-hour mark gave Quins a 24-0 lead at the break.

Firstly, winger Jon Wells put pressure on Salford?s Kevin McGuinness and he dropped the ball over his own try-line to allow Wells to claim a simple touchdown.

And seven minutes before the interval Dorn split the visitors? struggling defensive line to score his second try of the half and Purdham added his fourth conversion.

The visitors had a mountain to climb in the second half and managed to reduce the deficit on 50 minutes when Sean Rutgerson went over in the corner and Chris Charles converted.

But the fightback did not last long. Five minutes later Solomon Haumono found Danny Williams ? playing his last game before retiring ? and he set up Dorn for his hat-trick try, which Purdham converted.

David Hodgson again reduced the lead in the 63rd minute but when Chad Randall and Luisi went over in quick succession the points were Quins?.

Gareth Haggerty scored a consolation try six minutes from time but the Reds will have to improve quickly if they are to progress in the play-offs.
