Rabbitohs re-sign Tyrrell and Goodwin for 2014 and 2015

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce the re-signing of both Dave Tyrrell and Bryson Goodwin for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Tyrrell, 24, has risen through the under 20s and NSW Cup ranks at the Rabbitohs to play 72 NRL matches since making his debut against the Panthers in 2009. Tyrrell joined the Club as an outside back and has now developed into a front row forward, becoming an important cog in South Sydney’s front row rotation.

Goodwin, 27, joined the Rabbitohs this season, playing 85 NRL matches since making his debut for the Sharks in 2007. Goodwin has also represented New Zealand on four occasions. Goodwin has worked hard to earn a spot in the South Sydney backline, having overcome a major injury whilst playing for the Bulldogs last season.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire says he’s very happy to be able to continue working with both players.

“This is great news for the Club and we’re all looking forward to working with Dave and Bryson for an extended period,” Coach Maguire said.

“In my time at the Club, Dave has worked hard and continually improved his game. He’s a reliable player that has been very solid for us every time he has had the opportunity.

“He adds great depth to our front row and I’m glad he’ll be with us for at least the next two years.

“From day one Bryson has shown great professionalism in how he goes about his training and his preparation for games.

“He’s also worked extremely hard to take his opportunity and he’s doing a great job for us. “He’s overcome a big injury from last year and he’s showing what he can do on a regular basis.

“He brings a lot of experience to our backline having played at the international level for New Zealand, and hopefully he can get back to that level playing with us at the Rabbitohs.”

Tyrrell is excited to have re-signed with the Club.

“Souths gave me my opportunity to play in the NRL and I’m really excited to be able to stay for two more years,” Tyrrell said.

“I’m really happy that I can be part of this group and I think there are more good times to come.

“In saying that, I’m just concentrating on this year at the moment and getting ready for Friday’s game against the Tigers.”

Goodwin is happy to have earned another contract at South Sydney.

“I’m really happy to get the chance to stay here at Souths,” Goodwin said.

“I think we’re a Club on the rise and we’re playing some good footy and I’m sure we’ll get the chance to play more good footy together in the coming seasons.

“It’s a great Club and everyone has made me feel very welcome and part of the family and I’m looking forward to the rest of this season and the seasons ahead.”
