Rabbitohs settle race claim

There will be no legal action over the Owen Craigie affair at South Sydney, with the club today announcing that Craigie and coach Paul Langmack had settled the matter privately.

Craigie claims Langmack was racist towards him last year and was planning to take him and the Rabbitohs club to court.

The Rabbitohs were quick to form a board meeting, which led to a meeting this morning between the relevant parties.

Last week, Souths Chairman Nick Pappas said the club values its Aboriginal players and heritage and would be treating the complaint seriously.

?South Sydney, more than any other sporting club in this country, values, and is underpinned by, its deep connections with the indigenous community,? said Mr Pappas.

?As such, any allegation of racial vilification is treated with the utmost seriousness.

?In the interests of all concerned, including our vast supporter base drawn from the indigenous community, it was essential that the Club act speedily and with total transparency.?

Langmack had denied making the comment about weight and skin colour towards Craigie or any other player in the Rabbitohs squad.

Details of the private settlement will not be revealed by the club or the parties involved.
