The Canberra Raiders have handed out an embarrassing defeat to the Bulldogs with a 58-18 hiding at ANZ Stadium in front of a paltry crowd of about 9000. The Raiders led 26-18 after a highly entertaining first half and ran away with the game in the second half.
The Raiders had all of the possession and territory early on, and took the lead after four minutes with David Milne running through weak Bulldogs defence to score. The lead was extended after 14 minutes with Best finishing off a length of the field try, and the Raiders went up 16-0 with Turner scoring on 17 minutes.
After getting some good field position, the Bulldogs struck back, only to fail to retrieve the kickoff and the Raiders pushed out to 20-6. The Bulldogs struck back with two tries before Milne completed his double just before halftime for a 26-18 lead. Eight tries from both teams in the first half.
The second half was all Raiders. Two quick tries after the break pushed the score out to 36-18, where it remained for some time before the Raiders produced four tries in the final 14 minutes to complete the blowout, winning 58-18 with Colin Best claiming four tries.
Overall the Raiders ran in 11 tries, six of them in the second half. The Bulldogs only briefly looked a chance of competing in the game in the second half, but their dreadful defence ultimately cost them.
