Red V Redemption

The St. George Illawarra Dragons have earned some redemption following their last minute defeat at the hands of the Storm in Round 6, knocking off the Warriors 20-10 at Jubilee Oval. A crowd of 10,559 watched on as the match flared up in the first half with a fast paced attacking style dominating.

Wayne Bennett may be long gone from Kogarah, but his lessons have remained as Gareth Widdop opted for a penalty goal in the 21st minute to give his side a 2-0 lead mid-way through the first half.

Jason Nightingale sailed head first into the western corner to post the Dragons first four-pointer as jumped incredibly to dive over. Widdop unable to convert from the sideline, Dragons 6-0.

Mike Cooper stood-up Warriors fullback, Sam Tomkins in the final minute before half time as he steamrolled him to claim his first NRL try. The Dragons returned to the sheds after 40 minutes ahead 12-0.

The Warriors hoped to fight back into the match as they claimed two second half tries to Sam Tomkins (49th minute) and Manu Vatuvei (63rd minute), but it wasn't enough as the Dragons held them out.

The Dragons defence was tested on a number of occasions but the Red V held together with brilliant second half options from Michael Witt which lead to Josh Dugan scoring the match winner as the Dragons went 50 metres downfield.

St. George Illawarra earned redemption as they defeated the Warriors 20-10 ending a three game losing streak at Jubilee Oval. Next week the Dragons host the Sydney Roosters on the traditional ANZAC Day clash at ANZ Stadium. Meanwhile the Warriors head to Melbourne to battle the Storm at AAMI Park.
