Redcliffe Dolphins News

An untimely forfeit by Runaway Bay last weekend saw the Colts miss out on some much needed game time. Although strength and conditioner Tony Guilfoyle gave the side a torrid workout on Sunday morning nothing can compensate for the real thing particularly when the remaining rounds see the Dolphins up against improvers Hill District and competition heavyweights Wests & Norths, although on the positive side of things it gave the side a good opportunity to freshen up their legs for the run into the finals.

The A Grade outfit scored another comprehensive victory over a 13 man Runaway Bay side to the tune of 46-14. Although happy with their ability to put a game beyond doubt coach ?Iggy? Graham feels his side has room for improvement. Damien Jentz was the Dolphins best on the day and deserves credit for his attitude after being relegated from the top grade during the week, ?Shrek? will enjoy a nice juicy steak at HOGS BREATH CAFE for his Man of the Match display, he received good support from Clint Frazer who is only 2 weeks back from a groin operation and ?Pistol? Pete Deliavuna.

The score line in the Premier Grade game read 40 points to 22 in favour of the Dolphins over Tweed Heads although this is not a true indication of how tight the game really was. The Seagulls came out with all guns blazing racing to an 8 nil lead courtesy of 2 tries and were playing with the desperation you would expect from a side whose season is hanging in the balance, to the Dolphins credit they stuck to their guns and went to the break trialling 12-8. The second half saw the Dolphins wrestle control of the game away from Tweed leading 30-22 late in the match before 2 tries blew the margin out. There were many solid performers in the winning dressing shed with Grant Flugge, Troy Lindsay and Greg Bourke all playing instrumental roles in the victory however the deserved award winners were Ryan Cullen KEYSTAR AUTOWORLD Players Player and Danny Burke SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS Player of the Match.

Mick Roberts got through his 150th First Grade game for the Club unscathed and will now join some of the legends of Redcliffe in the windows of the Leagues Club when his playing days are over. Congratulations Mick on a great achievement.

This weekend sees the Club head in opposite directions with the Premier Grade heading North to Rockhampton to tackle the Comets on Saturday while on the same night the Colts and A Grade head to Kev McKell Oval for the first time to take on Hills District. All 3 games pose real challenges for the Dolphins with the Comets sure to be on a high after registering their first win of the season last time round while the Hills sides have proved more than competitive this season and are also fresh from wins in round 18.

And a reminder Friday August 5 is the Keystar Motors Redcliffe Dolphins charity golf day. The Redcliffe Hospital childrens ward will be the benficiaries for the day. For more details contact Julieanne at the club on 3203-7333.
