Dolphins News

A mixed bag for the Dolphins last weekend against the Souths/Logan Magpies winning 2 of the 3 games played.

The Colts fought their way back from a halftime deficit to squeak home 28 points to 22. There is a great deal of improvement left in this side and although it was a tremendous effort to pull off the win there is still quite a bit of work to be down for the side to reach it?s potential. Scott Gillis was the Leading Edge Sports Man of the Match for the second week running, the Mackay product is proving to be a real asset to the Dolphins. Scott was well supported by 17 year old Matt Gillett who is one to keep an eye out for in the future.

The A Grade side suffered its second successive loss of the season after a squandering a 24-6 half time lead to go down 37-30 to a spirited Magpies outfit. The Dolphins performance in the first half was first rate however things changed for the worse after the break, ball control went out the window and of the measly 12 possessions the side received only 5 were completed. This game was a classic example of one that got away, hopefully the experience will be taken on board and the side will rise to the challenge when they confront competition front runners Wynumm today. Last weeks best was rugged front rower Clint Frazer who receives a meal for 2 courtesy of Hogs Breath Cafe.

The Premier Grade outfit ran out winners to the tune of 44 points to 16 after going to the break 28-0 up. The first half was a forceful display by the Dolphins which saw some rugged defense mixed with good ball movement. Of concern for Coach Anthony Griffin was the sides approach to the second stanza, although the side?s defense was still solid, ball control was a problem with the 2 sides fighting out a 16 all draw for the half. Despite this it was still a good result for the side which is building momentum. Adam Starr and Danny Burke continued their impressive start to 2005 with robust performances and Starry received the Searles Garden Products Player of the match, new recruit Matt Mapes was judged best on ground by his peers and receives the Keystar Motors Players Player Award for Rd 4. Matt joined the Club from Nambour after winning a premiership with them and will only get better the further into the season we get.

Colt Chris Torrington looks to be the only serious injury from last weekend, Chris was replaced early in the game with a knee injury and the Club wishes him a speedy recovery.

Bayside rivals Wynnum travel over the Hornibrook today in what is sure to be 3 hotly contested matches. Premier Grade should be an interesting affair which sees the first leg of the Herald Cup being contested, a good crowd is expected at Dolphin Oval with the usual Red & White supporters being out in force and the Seagulls are sure to bring a strong supporters base along as well. Come along and have a beer and steak sanger on the hill and enjoy what will surely be a good days footy.

At the monthly Club BBQ and awards night Danny Burke was named player of the month after an outstanding start to the season and Phil Shilvock was named Club player of the month.
