Coventry Bears look in no mood to give up their title in the Midlands Premier as they eased to a comfortable 44-17 win over Derby City at Haslams. A burst of three tries in the opening ten minutes from Alex Brown, Chris Brown and Matt Allsopp gave the Bears licence to control the game. Ben Powis and Ty Watson both scored before City registered their first points. Further tries from Matt Cooper and Richie Whitehouse sent the Bears in at half time 40-6 ahead. In a disappointing second period marred by penalties, City restored some pride with two tries and a field goal, though the Bears had the final word with Cooper
