Roosters cement top of the table
The Sydney Roosters have cemented their spot on top of the NRL ladder after a 28-22 victory at Allianz Stadium. It was not the most convincing win, but they did enough to entertain the crowd of 13,223.
The Roosters struck first points as James Maloney took a simple intercept off a pass from Josh McCrone to bolt 60 metres down field. The Roosters on the board, 6-0 after 13 minutes.
After a review from the man up stairs in the video referee's box, Joel Edwards was awarded his try has he hit and spin through defensive line. The Raiders back in the contest as Jarrod Croker locked the game up at 6-all after 20 minutes.
Michael Jennings replied just minutes later as he was gifted a try by Daniel Tupou who knocked the ball back in the high ball contest. James Maloney from the sideline struck the ball beautifully to convert. Roosters back in the lead 12-6.
Former Panther, Jennings posted his second try just before the break thanks to a pin-point pass from Mitchell Pearce. The Roosters extending their lead to 16-6.
In his first game back in the NRL after being suspended, Blake Ferguson made his mark with two tries. He posted his first a minute before half time. Ferguson dived over in the corner and planted the Steeden inside the corner post. The Raiders closed the gap to 16-10 heading into the break after 40 minutes.
Following a mistake from the kick off, Shaun Kenny-Dowall put the Roosters on the front foot as he has slid over the goal line off a long pass from Mitchell Aubusson. Maloney no mistake with the conversion extended the Roosters lead to 22-10.
Powerful winger, Daniel Tupou was rewarded for his efforts as he crossed in the 49th minute off a bullet cut out pass from James Maloney. The Roosters in control leading 28-10.
The Canberra Raiders attempted a fight back at the back end of the second half with tries to Sandor Earl and Blake Ferguson but it wasn't enough. Blake Ferguson will be happy with his return performance as it appeared he hasn't missed a game.
The Roosters weren't at their best, but they did enough to defeat the Raiders 28-22. The two competition points sees the Roosters stand alone on top of the NRL ladder after 22 Rounds.
