Roosters serve Dragons fourth consecutive loss

THE Sydney Roosters have broken their Wollongong voodoo with a 20-12 win over the Dragons in front of 14,141 crowd at WIN Stadium this afternoon.

The Roosters took control of the match early as they dominated the Dragons all over the paddock and won the meters battle.

The visitors posted their first points in only the 11th minute when veteran forward Jason Ryles scored his first try in four years.

Brian Smith's were over again only two minutes later, this time it was through Phil Graham who scored after a brilliant offload by Brad Takairangi.

Last year's runners up were over again in the 25th minute but replays revealed Phil Graham knocked the ball on over the line.

The home side were given several opportunities to hit back but were unable to post points until the 29th minute after Anthony Minichiello was sin binned.

The try came through Trent Merrin who muscled his war past defenders to score under the black dot for the Dragons.

Matt Cooper levelled the scores 10 minutes later on the back of a kick by Nathan Fien. Jamie Soward added the extras to give his side a lead going into half time.

The Dragons were given a chance to extend their lead early in the second half after Minichiello failed to play the ball correctly after only the second tackle.

However Minichiello saved the day for the Chooks as he lept higher than the Dragons' kick chasers to deny the home side a try.

It was the Roosters posting points only minutes later with Mose Masoe crossing for a try in the 45th minute.

The visitors continued to out play the Dragons all over the field as they muscled up in defence and dominated the meter battle.

Points finally came again in the 71st minute when Joeseph Leilua finished off a beautiful team try to extend Roosters' lead.

The Dragons were given a few late opportunities to get back in the game, however, disjointed attack, poor last tackle options and desperate defence by the Chooks kept them out.

Wayne Bennett will have a lot to say to his side, they were poor in both attack and defence this afternoon and will need to pick it up leading into the finals.
