Roosters snatch the points in Extra Time

The Sydney Roosters have fought back from a 12-nil deficit to score a 13-12 victory over the Cronulla Sharks in Golden point extra time.

In a game that was fairly ordinary for 68 minutes of the match, the Roosters managed to pull it out of the fire with two late tries to force the game into extra time, before NSW fullback Anthony Minichiello was the surprise hero with a sharp field goal four minutes into the third session.

The game started slow but looked to be following the script with Cronulla getting on the board through Paul Gallen in the 27th minute. He barged over the stripe after a good ball from Kevin Kingston out of dummy half.

For the rest of the half the game was fairly dour as mistakes crept in and both sides failed to capitalise on scoring opportunities. They headed to the sheds with the Sharks leading 6-nil and a big improvement required by both clubs.

Shortly after the break Cronulla increased their lead through prospective NSW forward Greg Bird, who gathered a loose ball and scampered over the line. Covell added his second conversion for the night and the Sharks looked pretty solid leading 12-nil.

The match then reverted to a holding pattern as both teams squandered the ball and made mistakes. That was until the 68th minute, when the Roosters halfback Jamie Soward slipped in a tidy grubber kick and Ashley Harrison won the race to the ball to score.

The Roosters had their tails up at this stage and four minutes later Soward put in another kick that resulted in a try. This time he went to the air and tested Misi Taulapapa
