Round 10 Team of the Week

This week we have a talented bunch of players with some playing out of their regular spot, but can certainly handle the task at hand. Looking at the squad, some selections may come as a surprise to the untrained eye. But here at LU, our keen live updaters give us the goods on the best players in each game, and that?s what we?re all about. So here?s the Round 10 League Unlimited Team of the Week and let me give you the tip, you?d be hard pressed to outgun this mob!

Fullback - M Bowen (Cowboys) Absolutely sensational on Saturday night and kept North Queensland in the game right up until the last five minutes. He was everywhere, running, kicking, catching balls and it?s no surprise to see him on the bench for Queensland. Joint leader with Matt Orford in the LU Player of the Year Awards.

Wing - J Monaghan (Roosters) Had his best game for the Roosters so far, scoring a try and featuring heavily in a tough encounter between the 2002 Grand Finalists.

Centre - P Whatuira (Tigers) Somewhat underrated, the former Panther come Tiger is a valued member this week, bagging a double and proving to be a constant headache for the Knights.

Centre - B Webb (Warriors) Generally a fullback, but Webby slots into the centres this week after a good performance coming back from injury. It's just too hard to squeeze out Bowen this week, and Webb's versatility helps his out here.

Wing - H El Masri (Bulldogs) What a game for Hazem! A regular fixture this year on the wing for the LU Team of the week, he scored all the Bulldogs points at the weekend and was the first to notch up 100 points for the season.

Five-eighth - J Smith (Raiders) Evergreen veteran who always has a smile on his face and a positive outlook. Smith has been great for us so far this year, featuring regularly in the LU Team of the week. Smart and patient.

Halfback - M Orford (Storm) Has continued to play a pivotal role for the Storm this season, and although he?s been snubbed by other selectors, he gets the nod this week for out team. Joint leader with Matt Bowen in the LU Player of the Year Awards and happens to be a former winner.

Lock - S Faumuina (Warriors) He played five-eighth at the weekend but is big enough to fit into the lock position here. Sione played well in a beaten side that wasn't far off the pace with Easts.

Second-row - S Menzies (Sea Eagles) Beaver is in vintage form and has been named 18th man in the Origin squad. Some may feel he?s a little hard done by there, but the news was easier to take for the Manly-bred veteran when we called out his name this week in the backrow.

Second-row - S Simpson (Knights) A bolter for the Blues and a hard worker for the Knights, big Steve Simpson packs down for us this week after a powerful display at home.

Prop - L Bailey (Dragons) Tireless prop who has been in outstanding form of late. He?s been named to start for the Blues and deserves it.

Hooker - D Young (Dragons) What a game from this young man! Made two sensational clean breaks and is proving his versatility at hooker and in the back row. Has a big future in the game.

Prop - A Laffranchi (Tigers) Played himself to a stand-still against the Knights and laid the platform for his club to turn around a four-match losing streak. He?ll combine well with Bailey in the front row for LU and we?re happy to have him onboard.

This bench shows plenty of skill (Hunt and Kimmorley) along with some good old fashioned grit (Nutley and Turner) and rounds out the 10th Team of the Week for Season 2005 in fine fashion.

Interchange: D Nutley (Sharks), G Turner (Storm), K Hunt (Broncos), B Kimmorley (Sharks).
