Round 11 Team of the Week

With 34 players out of action due to State of Origin commitments, this week was on offer for those trying to press their claims to the selectors. There was only six games but still enough talent on display to make for an exciting and pulsating contest for places in the Round 11 League Unlimited Team of the Week. We've got a slick backline, crafty halves and an underrated pack of forwards.

Fullback - B Hodgson (Tigers) Put in a stellar effort for the Tige's this week, backing up everywhere and nearly scoring on a number of occasions. Potted four goals and made a few great tackles.

Wing - M Vatuvei (Warriors) This guy looks to be the real deal. Scored a brilliant try and caused mayhem for the Bunnies all night long. Has a long future in first grade and may find himself a regular in the LU Team of the Week if he keeps it up.

Centre - P Whatuira (Tigers) Played some great level headed footy at the weekend and bagged a double for his efforts. Has been a revelation for the Tigers this season and is at the top of his game.

Centre - W Naiqama (Dragons) Came of age against Newcastle, breaking the line for his first try and kicking an important five goals from as many attempts. Top notch effort from the young fella.

Wing - F Meli (Warriors) Also great on the wing for the Warriors, with a four pointer next to his name and many powerful runs. A hard player to stop and makes plenty of yards each week.

Five-eighth - M Gidley (Knights) Finds himself at pivot this week in a bit of a reshuffle, but can handle the position with ease and has played there many times. He was one of the few that could hold his head high after yet another loss for the Knights.

Halfback - B Sherwin (Bulldogs) Still plugging away for the Doggies and rarely gets the wraps he deserves. Sherwin lead from the front this week and we've handed him the prestigious no.7 LU jersey.

Lock - P Gallen (Sharks) A big guy who can take the ball up with fury. Scored a try and tackled all day long for the Sharkies in their victory over the Panthers. This boy is a State of Origin rep in the making.

Second-row - S Menzies (Sea Eagles) Good old Beaver put in another great effort in a beaten team. This guy gets in the engine room every week and puts in for Manly and we love him too! Scored a good try.

Second-row - T Grimaldi (Bulldogs) Honest toiler who got amongst the dirty work against the Storm. Grimy made plenty of good charges up the centre of the ruck and cleaned up across the park.

Prop - R Wiki (Warriors) Lead the Warriors out in the absence of Price and played the house down. Made short work of the Rabbitoh's forwards made a stack of inroads in the middle of the paddock.

Hooker - M Riddell (Eels) His best game for new club Parramatta featuring good service out of dummy half, clever running and lots of heavy contact with his nuggetty frame.

Prop - D Nutley (Sharks) Once again 'Nuts' leads the way for the LU forward pack with a solid display. This guy never takes a backward step and just keeps punishing his body week after week.

A talented and versatile bench who punch well above their weight. Widders in particular has been in good form, slightly ahead of Hornby's recent purple patch. Hilder and Brideson offer some starch and relief for the forwards.

Interchange: D Widders (Eels), M Hilder (Sharks), A Brideson (Bulldogs), B Hornby (Dragons).
