Round 14 Team of the Week

Round 14 saw some upsets with teams taking advantage of their opposition missing rep players. There were also a few gritty contests with the mettle of a few clubs being tested in their star?s absence. As you?d expect with the results that took place, the Tigers, Bunnies and Eels dominate the Round 14 League Unlimited Team of the Week. There?s plenty of points in this outfit and they?d be unbackable at the TAB is they were running around last week.

Fullback ? B Hodgson (Tigers) Played superbly on Friday night, scoring a double and kicking five goals in his team?s important victory over the Sharks in front of a bumper crowd in Campbelltown.

Wing ? T Byrne (Warriors) This guy has been in sensational form, scoring a swag of tries in recent weeks and picking up another two on the weekend, putting him in second place overall. He was also involved in the controversial penalty try to Cooper Cronk, but we?ll forgive him for that.

Centre ? Yileen Gordon (Rabbitohs) Alright, I?ll admit part of the reason he?s here is for his funky name, how long will it be before we start calling him ?Flash?? But in all seriousness, this kid stood up and had a real crack at the Sea Eagles, crossed the chalk and showed them he can mix it in the first?s.

Centre ? D Wagon (Eels) Wagon found himself listed in the centres this week after playing plenty of lock so far this season. He went well and scored a good try, causing general mayhem for a dishevelled Knight?s team all day long.

Wing ? A Macdougall (Rabbitohs) Mad Dog is back in the side this week courtesy of a rousing performance against the Manly club. He teamed up well with his new buddy in the centres and put on a try for good measure.

Five-eighth ? J Sutton (Rabbitohs) Everyone has to admit that John Sutton is a pleasure to watch run around on the footy park. He guided his team to an outstanding victory on Saturday night, scoring a try and setting up plenty whilst giving the Bunnies Board a thing or two to think about in coming weeks.

Halfback ? S Jones (Warriors) Stace was firing at Ericsson on Sunday, knocking over a couple of goals and setting up four tries. He also made a 50 yard dash that helped put the Storm away. He?ll combine well with Sutton in our team here.

Lock ? D Young (Dragons) Young is fast turning into the Dragons most important forward with his skilful and sublime play. He has an outstanding work ethic and can offload and link up with support players with ease.

Second-row ? L Thompson (Dragons) ?Thommo? busted a gut for the Dragons against the Cowboys, returning from an injury the week before. The flame-haired back rower took it up all day and tackled with plenty of purpose.

Second-row ? A Laffranchi (Tigers) This tough Tiger lead the way for them on Friday showing his class against a strong pack that threw in a lacklustre performance this week.

Prop ? C Parker (Broncos) Had a cracker of a game against the Raiders and is beginning to press his claims for a fulltime starting berth. It?s very competitive up at the Broncos, but this guy can motor.

Hooker ? M Riddell (Eels) The Riddler hasn?t attracted the same headlines this year at Parra than he did previously with the Dragons, but that hasn?t stopped him playing top footy. He belted six goals and still takes a lot of stopping in the defensive line.

Prop ? S Webcke (Broncos) Webcke combines here with his Bronco?s partner and is still as hard as ever. With Brisbane four points clear of Manly and Parra on the ladder, it?s no secret he?s the driving force behind their success.

There?s mostly creativity coming off the bench here, with Hornby, Marsh and Smith all able to pull off a play that can get the team some points. Mini jnr adds some starch and has been in fine form of late with excellent showings against the Doggies and Sea Eagles in recent times.

Interchange: B Hornby (Dragons), M Minichiello (Rabbitohs), PJ Marsh (Eels), T Smith (Eels).
