Round 21 Team of the Week

Another cracking round of Rugby League action with upsets, big wins and narrow losses going the way of some. Once again, the Round 21 League Unlimited Team of the Week is choc full of sensational players who really stood out for their club sides at the weekend.

Fullback ? B Hodgson (Tigers) Pound for pound Hodgson is up there with the best, constantly getting back to his feet after being smashed. This week he scored a try and kicked a tidy 7 from 8 and is enjoying playing with his halves Marshall and Prince.

Wing ? T Williams (Cowboys) Scored a hat-trick including the match-winner amid some controversial circumstances, but nonetheless Williams has really stepped things up a notch recently. His good form is surely the result of this years Origin experience.

Centre ? M Gasnier (Dragons) What can you say about this bloke that hasn?t already been said? Gasnier has been is such outstanding touch lately making him by far the best in the game at the moment. Three tries including one of the best one-on-one stand-up?s you?ll ever come across against the Australian fullback no less.

Centre ? G Carmont (Knights) Showed some excellent form for the resurgent Knights who have become more than a thorn in the side for most teams they?ve played in the last six weeks. If you didn?t know they were on the bottom of the ladder you?d think they?re playing for the minor premiership.

Wing - P Richards (Tigers) Big Pat arced-up against the Sharkies and really put them to the sword. Bagged a four-pointer a generally got up to mischief down that right side all day long.

Five-eighth - B Marshall (Tigers) Another natural talent that is somewhat indescribable. The wraps on Benji Marshall have been correct all along, with his coming-of-age performance on Sunday proving to the world he can dominate at this level.

Halfback ? A Johns (Knights) What a turnaround for Joey. He started this season in the doldrums, struggling to get match-fit and then dealing with a broken jaw. Despite his team?s lowly position he is by far and away the form halfback and rightly gets the nod in our team this week.

Lock ? S Faumuina (Warriors) A big boy who can handle a few positions, Sione has played a lot of times at lock for us this season. He was the pick of an otherwise disappointing Warriors outfit, with the exception of Stace.

Second-row ? T Grimaldi (Bulldogs) One word sums this guy up ? toiler. You need them in every team and Grimaldi really took the ball to the line well considering his team?s overall poor performance.

Second-row ? A Tongue (Raiders) Alan came off the bench firing against the Broncos and he gets promoted to the starting side off the back of it. He?s a great player who doesn?t always get the wraps he deserves.

Prop ? C Smith (Knights) Another veteran showing his wares in the comp at the moment. There were plenty of question marks raised when the Knights snapped up Smithy, but he?s responded well and played hard against another old head in Kearns.

Hooker ? L Priddis (Panthers) The Panthers shining light. Priddis has played above the level of the rest of the club all year long and they should hold a parade for him at Penrith. Great to see him steal a try from a tap as well, a lost art some may say?

Prop ? J Miller (Raiders) Ran strong and hard all night at his more fancied rivals in Webcke and Civoniceva. Not a household name yet, but if Miller keeps going the way he is there might be people outside Greater Queanbeyan that can recognise his face.

What a bench we?ve got here. Three crafty halves in Walker, Hornby and Thurston plus a lightening quick back in Hegarty. It?s not exactly a regulation bench, but they all played well and have the ability to bob-up anywhere.

Interchange: B Walker (Rabbitohs), B Hornby (Dragons), J Thurston (Cowboys), S Hegarty (Rabbitohs).
