Round 5 Team of the Week

What a sensational round of footy and with it comes another bumper League Unlimited Team of the Week. There's only two names in here from last week, proving even further that this year's comp is one of the most competitive and unpredictable to date. Given some of the fine displays over the weekend, I think side would capture the mantle as this season's finest.

Fullback - R Wesser (Panthers) In absolutely gob-smacking form and is terribly hard done by with his exclusion from the Australian Test side. That tackle on Hoffman was a game-breaker and scored a double.

Wing - L Covell (Sharks) What a surprise this bloke has been. Not only can he kick but all of a sudden he's been turning up on the end of plays and really making an impact against the opposition, bagging a try himself.

Centre - P Whatuira (Tigers) Wasn't this guy great to watch at the weekend? Scores two tries and his experience is really showing for the Tiger's. No one could have imagined his form would be this good.

Centre - B Tate (Broncos) The Colossus of Brisbane certainly lived up to his reputation. Will undoubtedly be lining up for the Aussies on Anzac Day and was hard to beat at the weekend scoring two well-earned tries.

Wing - D Peachey (Sharks) He's more accustomed to the fullback's role, but we're going to stick him here this week. The Peach is playing vintage footy now that the Sharkies' pack are moving forward. Grabbed a handy try.

Five-eighth - D Lockyer (Broncos) Somebody stop him! Engineered the first half annihilation of Parramatta and will captain the Roo's v New Zealand. Didn't get amongst the tries, but his kicking has improved markedly.

Halfback - B Kimmorley (Sharks) This guy played himself into a Test guernsey as well. They're doing some great things down in the Shire right now and made the Cowboys look average.

Lock - T Waterhouse (Panthers) Powerful player and worked himself back into good form with the Panthers beating Melbourne in a quality arm-wrestle.

Second-row - K Kahler (Raiders) Kahler has impressed a lot of people so far this year and could be a bolter for City v Country. He's a real smoky in the League Unlimited Player of the Year Awards.

Second-row - M Minichiello (Rabbitohs) Even though he came off the bench for the Bunnies this guy has been in fine touch, with some powerful displays this year. Family dinners with big brother should become more interesting.

Prop - S Price (Warriors) Played hard in a beaten side and looks to be the only consistent forward for the Warriors. I bet he can't wait until Ruben gets back.

Hooker - B Berrigan (Broncos) Has started this year very well just like last year before a season-ending injury. He's a very enthusiastic and lively player who is proving to be a genuine rake for the Broncos.

Prop - J Ryles (Dragons) This barnstorming prop has worked hard to get back to near his best and he showed plenty of it at the weekend. He would combine well with the rest of this fearless pack.

Great bench here with Williams and Smith providing the creativity and Fletcher and Thompson showing the way up the middle. Great mix of ability, flair and grunt.

Interchange: J Williams (Rabbitohs), J Smith (Raiders), B Fletcher (Rabbitohs), L Thompson (Dragons).
