Sea Eagles named for Sharks clash
minus Monaghan

In a body blow to the Sea Eagles star halfback Michael Monaghan faces surgery tomorrow to re-attach the tendon to the ring finger on his left hand and will miss between 6 to 8 weeks.

Monaghan had his worst fears confirmed today when x-rays revealed he had torn the tendon off the bone on the finger.

Coach Des Hasler said it was shocking luck for Monaghan.

"He was gradually working into top form and I thought he was great on Sunday in the big win over the Warriors - his injury couldn't have come at a worse time but we have to get on with the job without him for the next couple of months" Hasler said.

Monaghan injured the finger early in the second half of the game against the Warriors in Auckland.

Former Sharks utility Jye Mullane has been rushed back from an ankle and knee injury to take Monaghan's place at the scrumbase for the clash against his former team at Brookvale Oval on Sunday.

Mullane has welcomed the challenge to mark Brett Kimmorley.

"He's a great player but Dessie has shown great faith in me and I won't let him down" Mullane said.

The Manly NRL side to play the Sharks on Sunday at Brookvale Oval is:

Brett Stewart Scott Donald Chris Hicks Albert Torrens John Hopoate Andrew Walker Jye Mullane Daniel Heckenberg Nathan Hollingsworth Solomon Haumono Sam Harris Anthony Watmough Steve Menzies (c)

Replacements:

Ian Donnelly Kylie Leuluai Shane Dunley Luke Williamson Chad Randall (one to be omitted).
