WYNNUM SEAGULLS v EASTS TIGERS

Wynnum's premiership team of 1995 picked a splendid day for a 10-year reunion, uniting as the Seagulls crushed Easts 30-6 at Kougari Oval on Sunday.

The Seagulls? most recent championship side was treated to the club?s most dominant display this season, watching as the home side consolidated on a 12-0 halftime lead.

In withstanding an early Easts onslaught, Wynnum joined their traditional rivals on 10 competition points, poised on the fringe of the top five.

The victory was significant, as Wynnum also faced Easts in the ?95 decider, winning 32-24.

Only one player ? prop Clayton Maher ? remains in the A-grade team from that era.

This time around Seagulls captain Damien Quinn (pictured) ended the day with a swag, posting 18 points from five goals and two tries, capitalising on Easts? errors for both of his four-pointers.

Opposition skipper Darren Smith said his team was guilty of playing like ?under 7s? and lamented a drop in form that has seen the Tigers plunge from first to sixth on the back of three consecutive losses.

Making matters worse, the Stones Corner mob now face top five sides Burleigh, Redcliffe and North Queensland.

?We were travelling along okay before but winning ugly too many times,? said Smith, also chief executive of Easts.

?I guess now that we are facing some of the harder teams we are getting found out.

?At the moment our football isn?t up to standard and we?re there for the picking.

?If I could put my finger on the problem I?d solve things, but at the moment I?m tearing my hair out trying to think how to do things differently.?

On a losing side Trevor Exton and Leigh Coghill were standouts, but the multitude of errors made them no match for a slick Wynnum outfit, buoyed by the return to form of big man Danny McAllister.

Fullback Daniel Sorbello ran riot and ball-players Jace Van Dijk, Brett McPherson and Nathan Murphy steered the Seagulls with aplomb. Just back from a hamstring strain, Van Dijk will be assessed during the week for another leg problem.

Next week Easts travel to Pizzey Park to face Burleigh in Saturday?s televised game, while Wynnum will play Tweed Heads on Sunday at the Piggabeen Complex.
