Sharks steal miraculous victory, again

The Cronulla Sharks have pulled off possibly the greatest upset in NRL history with an incredible fightback victory over the Sydney Roosters, 30-28 at Allianz Stadium.

The boys from the Shire were given no hope to trouble the tricolours but after a horrid week which including the sacking of Todd Carney and the resignation of their Head Coach, Peter Sharp, they banded together to pull of a miraculous win.

Cronulla trailed 24-6 at half time after the Roosters made light work of the Sharks defensive line. The Roosters posted 18 points in just 16 minutes as Mitchell Aubusson (5th minute), Mitchell Pearce (9th minute) and Shaun Kenny-Dowall (15th minute) crossed in the opening stanza.

The Roosters looked to extend their big lead before half time but video referee denied Mitchell Pearce his second as Anthony Minichiello failed to get a clean catch of the ball.

Mitchell Pearce was involved in the action minutes later as he provided a try assist to his opposition in Wade Graham who sailed over for the easiest try of his career. Cronulla down at the break, trailing 24-6.

Jacob Gagan was a shining light in the Sharks pack and after being denied in the first half, crossed minutes into the second as Fa'amanu Brown provided the cross field kick to send him over untouched. Cronulla with hope building, trailing 24-12.

Sosaia Feki climbed high reaching for the skies as he leapt above Sonny Bill Williams and Shaun Kenny-Dowall to plant the Steeden down. The Sharks hunting the lead, half an hour on the clock they closed the gap to just six points.

The Mitch-combination looked to dash hopes of the Sharks faithful as Pearce provided the link ball to Aubusson who darted under the defensive line. The Roosters back in front by 10 points, 28-18, mid-way through the second half.

It become a fiery affair with Anthony Tupou and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves having words after heated tackle.

Man of the moment, Jacob Gagan with silkily skills dived over in the western corner to start the beginning of the end for the tricolours. Cronulla back within a converted try, Roosters leaders, 28-24 in the final five minutes.

Jeff Robson rose to hero status as his fancy footwork sliced through the Roosters pack despite the efforts of Remi Casty. Cronulla defying all odds and jumped to a two point lead, 30-28, with as many minutes on the clock.

Mitchell Aubusson with all the hope of the Roosters fans on his back darted over in the final minute of play, however upon review the video referee denied the try after being held up. The Cronulla Sharks secured the two Premiership points in incredible circumstances.

Next week the Sydney Roosters will have a chance to recover from their embarrassing loss with a bye round. Meanwhile the Cronulla Sharks, look to make it three straight victories with a home game against the Knights.
