St George Illawarra Dragons centre Matt Cooper will undergo surgery to repair his pectoral muscle and will be side-lined for the remainder of the season.
The retired Australia international has had scans to the ailment and has met with Dragons medical staff who have determined surgery is required.
The Shellharbour Sharks junior suffered the injury during the second-half of the 22-18 win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Monday.
“Scans have confirmed Matt has injured his pectoral muscle which was the result of a freakish landing when jumping for the ball in last night’s game,” said Dragons Performance Director Andrew Gray.
“He will require surgical repair of the muscle which carries a four month rehabilitation.”
Additionally, fellow centre Charly Runciman will be side-lined for up to four weeks after suffering a hamstring strain sustained while on duty with the Illawarra Cutters.
