South Sydney have defeated the Newcastle Knights 28-25 in an excellent game of football at Energy Australia Stadium this evening.
In one of the games of the year, Souths came from behind midway through the second half to level at 24 all after Jeremy Smith and Roy Asotasi scored tries.
Luke Walsh from the Knights kicked a field goal to extend the Knights lead by one but Ben Rogers from Souths scored in the 77th minute to give Souths the lead and they hung on to win their seventh match of the season.
The win propels the Bunnies into the top eight and the Knights are hanging onto eight spot but must wait on the results of other matches to see if they will still be ther by the end of the round.
Souths have now won three of their past four matches and their defence, usually the cornerstone of their game was overshadowed by their willingness to use the ball every chance they got. The other pleasing aspect for Souths was they did not panic even when they were behind by twelve points midway through the second half.
Roy Asotasi, Nigel Vagana and Jeremy Smith were all outstanding for Souths while Paul Mellor had his best game this season, with some last ditch defence.
For Newcastle, it
