Souths drown Raiders in the rain

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have drowned the Canberra Raiders 32-2 at a water-logged ANZ Stadium as Sydney Olympic Park was drenched in rain. A faithful crowd of 11,167 turned out to support the ladder leaders.

The wet conditions made ball handling difficult for both sides as the Steeden resembled a cake of soap. However the Rabbitohs strung together some crafty tries to entertain the Rabbitohs faithful.

The Raiders' only points were posted four minutes into the game as Jarrod Croker opted to take a penalty goal.

Englishman Sam Burgess was awarded the first points for the Rabbitohs by the video referee as he slid over the try line, despite the attempted tackle of two. The Rabbitohs held an early lead, 6-0 after 17 minutes.

Just three minutes later, Justin Hunt finished off a left-to-right play as he dived in the corner off a short pass from Dylan Walker. The Rabbitohs out to a 10-2 lead.

Little master Issac Luke had a hand in two tries, including one of his own. He posted his own four-pointer in the 31st minute has he simply darted out from acting half to crash over next to the posts.

At the half time break, the Rabbitohs lead the Raiders 16-2.

South Sydney crossed for three unanswered tries in the second half with a dominate performance in the wet.
