The Souths Juniors Premier League Team came up against a red hot Parramatta Eels outfit on the weekend. The Parramatta team got off to a flying start and before we knew it we were behind by 10 points to nil.
First half tries to Matt Brinckley and Brad Watts kept us in touch, but it was Parramatta who dominated the opening half of football and they took a 20 points ? 8 lead into the half time break.
Coach Mark Ellison inspired his players who came out firing in the second half and before we knew it we had reduced Parramatta?s lead too just two points. Some errors and defensive lapses allowed Parramatta to extend their lead and Parramatta ended up running out winners to the tune of 32 points ? 24.
Michael Greenfield up front once again proved outstanding, whilst Trent Young served the team well out of dummy half and scoring two tries. Mick Moran at half back steered the team around the park and had a sound game whilst Matt Brinckley impressed in the position of fullback.
Our next encounter is against a very strong Canberra Raiders outfit whom we meet on Easter Monday at Aussie Stadium. The game will be played as a curtain raiser to the NRL match and kicks off at 1.10pm.
Parramatta Eels 32 defeated
Souths Juniors 24 (Try Scorers Matt Brinckley, Brad Watts, Dean Loder, Trent Young 2 and Matt Riddle 2 Goals)
The Souths Juniors Jersey Flegg team matched up against one of the heavy weights of the competition in Parramatta Eels at Redfern Oval. The boys started the game well and it was five eight Beau Champion who opened up the scoring for the game and we took an early lead in the match.
Parramatta struck back and both teams went try for try in the first half of the match and going into the half time break the game was evenly poised with both teams even at 10 points all.
The second half was similar to that of the first but this time it was Parramatta who scored first in the second half and took the lead for the first time in the match. It was then Souths Juniors who had to fight there way back into the match and this they did and we ended up winning the match by the smallest of margins.
Once again it was five eight Beau Champion who was outstanding at five eight and directed the team around the park quite well, fullback Adham El ? Zbaidieh had another fantastic game. The two front rowers Josh Rovelli and Aaron Firman never stopped hitting the ball up and got through a mountain of work in defence.
Dean Peters was useful off the bench and sparked the team into action when he was included in the game, Isaac Tautaiolefua and Michael Woodlands were always looking for work and involvement in the match.
Congratulations to Coach Scott Murray who notched up his first win as Coach of the Souths Juniors Jersey Flegg team.
