Storm farewell Sisa Waqa to join the Raiders

CANBERRA RAIDERS STATEMENT

The Canberra Raiders are pleased to announce the signing of Melbourne Storm winger Sisa Waqa for two seasons commencing in 2015.

Waqa made his NRL debut for the Roosters in 2009 and has since played over 60 NRL matches, scoring 35 tries. He also represented his native Fiji at the 2013 rugby league World Cup.

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner said the Raiders were thrilled to have Waqa sign on for the next two seasons and said he would be a great addition to the Raiders backline.

"Sisa is an experienced player with an outstanding try scoring rate and we are excited about him joining our club in 2015," Furner said. "We're looking forward to him being with the club for the next two years and wish him all the best for the remainder of his time at the Melbourne Storm.

MELBOURNE STORM STATEMENT

Melbourne Storm will farewell Sisa Waqa at the end of the season after the winger agreed to terms with Canberra Raiders on a longer term deal.

Melbourne Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi said:

"Sisa is an extremely well liked member of our Club, he has worked extremely hard to become the NRL player he is today," Ponissi said.

"While Sisa was contracted for another season, he received an offer from the Raiders that was too good to refuse. He has a young family to look after and we weren't going to stand in the way in doing what's best for them.

"We know Sisa will be committed and focused on finishing the season well with Melbourne Storm. He is a Melbourne Storm premiership player and he and his family will always be welcome at the Club."

Waqa, 29, joined Storm in 2011 after securing a contract after a three month pre-season trial. He previously played a handful of games with the Sydney Roosters.

Storm has already secured a ready-made replacement for Waqa for 2015 in Marika Koroibete. Koroibete, 22, recently made his Storm debut after a mid-seasons switch from Wests Tigers and scored his first try for the Club on the weekend.
