Student World
Cup - Preview

Wales will be looking to bounce back from their crushing defeat against New Zealand when they face Scotland on Wednesday morning in the second match of their Student Rugby League World Cup campaign.

The Welsh lost 46-0 on Saturday against the current World Champions and although they failed to get a single point on the point, coach Wayne Williams is confident that his team can turn things around in this crucial tie.

The squad attended the Brisbane Broncos v Cronulla Sharks Australian NRL match on Sunday and were back in training on Monday to prepare for the clash.

We know Scotland will be a tough match, said Williams. But we're quietly confident as we learned a lot from Saturday. Before we came out here I warned the lads that due to the fact that many of their players are affiliated to the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL, the Kiwi game would be the toughest match they've ever played. I think they're just starting to believe me.

Cardiff Demons Matt Drew is the only casualty from Saturday, suffering a rib injury that will probably put him out of action for the rest of the tournament. There are no other injury worries.

Wales last played Scotland at student level in 2004, beating them on their way to winning the Home Nations title. Wales must do the same again on Wednesday to have any chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Scotland are also looking to bounce back on the end of a hammering as they were defeated 64-4 by Australia in their opening match on Saturday.
