Tallis OK, Carroll to fight
charge

Dr. Geoff Askin has given Broncos skipper Gorden Tallis the green light to resume playing after he spent the past three weeks on the sidelines suffering from a neck injury.

Tallis had a similar ailment in 2001 when tackled by then-Northern Eagles backrower Adam Muir. The serious nature of the injury threatened to end his career.

Known as "the Raging Bull", Tallis confirmed he will play out the rest of the year, but remains undecided about whether he'll continue next season.

Meanwhile, clubmate and Queensland lock Tonie Carroll will contest a grade two striking charge at the NRL judiciary tonight. He was charged over two separate incidents involving Canberra halfback Mark McLinden.

Carroll pleaded guilty to a grade one striking charge and will serve a one-match suspension on Sunday when the Broncos take on South Sydney.

This ploy will allow state selectors to add him to the Queensland squad if his lawyers manage to beat the grade two charge. The bulky centre/lock will come into the team for Paul Bowman, who was originally selected on the bench but has withdrawn through injury.
