Taylor promoted to Souths head coach for
2007

South Sydney today promoted Jason Taylor to the head coaching position for the next two NRL seasons.

Taylor had been signed for an assistant coaching role for 2007, but the Rabbitohs today upgraded his position and switched current head coach Shaun McRae to a director of football operations role.

Taylor is currently the caretaker head coach at Parramatta having assumed the role midseason after Brian Smith's resignation and he steered the Eels to a nine-game winning streak to reach the NRL finals.

McRae has asked for seven days to consider his change of position at the club.

Taylor earlier today said he would consider asking the Rabbitohs for a release if another head coaching role was offered. The former Eels and North Sydney halfback had been considered a possible replacement to sacked Sydney Roosters coach Ricky Stuart.

But the Rabbitohs moved swiftly to secure their man, announcing his upgraded and extended deal only a few hours after Taylor had spoken on Sydney Radio 2KY.
